Q. Is it true that unless my windows are made at this altitude they will somehow "leak" or crack when shipped here to Colorado?
A. Absolutely not as long as your windows are manufactured by a nationally recognized company and are installed by certified professionals. Many times local window manufacturers and retailers will propagate this misconception to "lead" the consumer to believe that the locally made product is better, however, most of these companies have only been in business 20 years or less and generally are of lesser quality than that of their national competitors. Companies such as Pella, Andersen, Simonton and Kensington have been shipping windows into Colorado, Utah and other Rocky Mountain states for decades and report failure rates less than that of some "local" manufacturers.
Q. Are triple paned windows really that much better than double paned?
A. Triple paned windows generally have a much higher R-value (lower U- value) than that of their double paned counterparts. Typically most Double paned soft coat LowE2/Argon gas filled windows will have an R -value between a 3.9 and 4.2, which is usually much better than the windows being replaced. However, consider that a typical Triple paned window utilizing Krypton gas and multiple soft coat applications will produce R -values between 9.09 and 10.0. The higher the R - value, the more energy efficient the window.
Q. What is Low E anyway?
A. Low E is an acronym for low emissivity. This is a term used to describe the electrostatic charge of silver and indium particles applied to the glass surface. These coatings have a highly reflective quality to them which reflect some of the suns heat away instead of allowing it to pass through the glass and into the home. As these reflective coatings have evolved and improved, other terms such as hard coat low E; low E squared; double soft coat have been introduced.
Q. Wont vinyl windows discolor in this environment?
A. Until the early 1990's vinyl windows and siding were known to discolor and or chalk. This was due mostly to a lack of technical knowledge regarding ingredients that would inhibit ultra-violet, which caused the vinyl to degrade or fade. High amounts of titanium dioxide are now added to most vinyl compositions prior to the extrusion process to reduce the damaging effects of the suns ultra violet rays.
Q. Why should I replace my whole window when I could just have the glass replaced?
A. Replacing the glass in an existing window may help improve the appearance of the window due to seal failure or "condensation" between the panes, but usually will not significantly improve the energy efficiency of the window itself. Often when the glass fails, the window main frame could be compromised as well and should also be replaced. Glass replacement is a low cost, temporary fix which often prolongs the inevitable replacement of the window.
Q. Why does Vinyl-Windows-Direct only sell nationally and internationally recognized brands?
A. Our belief is that a manufacturers warranty or guarantee is only as good as the company who stands behind it. All to often, smaller local manufacturers who only distributed windows within their own state or nearby states are subjected to the economies of a smaller scale. Colorado for example has a particularly volatile economy which has been responsible for the boom and bust of many industries within its borders. One only has to look back a few short years at industries such as oil & gas, savings and loan, high tech, and .coms to understand that Colorado is subject to economic fluctuations very different from many other states. Companies come and go so frequently in Colorado that their warranties are often worthless pieces of paper when they bankrupt. Our decision to represent only national and internationally recognize products, helps us insure you that they will have a better chance of staying around when and if you need them to service you and your home.
Q. When was Vinyl-Windows-Direct started and why?

Vinyl-windows-direct.com is a subsidiary of Carpenter's Touch LLC a Colorado based home improvement company, that has specialized in custom window replacement for the past 7 1/2 years.
